Willoughby is a community rich in history. Willoughby was first settled in 1798, five years before Ohio's bid for statehood.
In 1835, the village was permanently named "Willoughby" in honor of Dr. Westel Willoughby, a renowed public health official in his day.
Several memorials and historical relics are displayed in Wes Point Park, the center of downtown Willoughby, to honor those that have served.
